Prof.Dr. Zia Ul Haq

Prof. Zia Ul Haq is working as the youngest Vice-Chancellor, pioneer Professor & Dean of the Faculty of Public Health & Social Sciences, Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar Pakistan. He is also the visiting professor at University of Glasgow, UK. He possesses the qualification of MBBS, & MPH from Pakistan and PhD Public Health from University of Glasgow UK, Post-Doc Keele University UK and Fellowship from the Faculty of Public Health Royal Colleges UK. He has 16 years of diverse academic, research and administrative experience in the field of Health Sciences and has published more than highly cited 70 research articles, H-index 15, and 03 book chapters. He has acquired exceptionally high research funding from WHO, GIZ, UN- WFP, ICRC, NIHR & MRC UK, worth more than 2.8 billion Pak Rupees. Prof. Zia has played an important role in the current response to COVID-19 pandemic. In recognition of his contributions to Public Health action and education in Pakistan, he has been awarded visiting Professorship from the University of Glasgow and Fellowship of the faculty of Public Health UK: Royal College of Physicians of London, Edinburg, & Glasgow. He has also been appointed as Director of Asian Consortium for Health Research in Nanjing University, China. He played a pivotal role in the recent initiative of introducing family practice approach in the healthcare system in Pakistan, an achievement resulting from his highly skilful management of collaboration between WHO, Ministry of Health, and major universities of Pakistan. He has also made significant contributions to the domains of elderly care and obesity and chronic disease prevention in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). He played a focal role in establishing regional public health labs, the second of its kind in the country, and was also instrumental not only in creating the firstever health policy of KP, but also in designing its implementation strategy and cost estimates. He has received the Higher Education Commission’s Country’s Best Researcher, Best University Teacher & Life-Time Achievement Awards and KMU best teacher Award.
