Faizan Afzal

Faizan has dedicated his career to the promotion of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and human rights in Pakistan, working with a number of national and international civil society organizations. His work with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) and Awaz CDS has contributed massively in mobilizing and sensitizing communities and government to progress on SDGs. Furthermore, he has also been involved with poverty alleviation initiatives in Baluchistan. In addition to Salamti Fellowship Program, Faizan has been awarded as Most Promising Young Professional from Pakistan by BRAC International at BRAC Young Leadership Development Program in Bangladesh. Moreover, Faizan has also chaired Youth Standing Committee on Foreign Relations at Youth Parliament Pakistan (PILDAT). Social issues in focus he enjoys writing on social accountability, governance and human rights. Besides his development sector experience, Faizan also has a background in journalism.

Fer Ghanaa Ansari

Fer Ghanaa Ansari is a lawyer working as a Research Associate at the Research Society of International Law, while concurrently serving as a Research Associate at the Center of Excellence for International Law, Institute of Strategic Studies Research and Analysis, National Defence University. At RSIL, Fer Ghanaa works on numerous projects with the Ministry of Human Rights, the UNODC and the UNDP involving research in human rights law, criminal law, and constitutional law. At NDU, she writes advisory policy papers for the civilian and military leadership on key issues of international law relating to Pakistan. Before joining RSIL, she served as an intern at the International Committee of the Red Cross where she worked on compiling Pakistan’s State Practice on Customary International Humanitarian Law, after which she interned at Fazleghani Advocates, where she was given the opportunity to draft petitions and appeals for the superior courts. Other than this, Fer Ghanaa has taught at the US Department of State’s English Access Micro scholarship Program and volunteered as the Editor of an educational development magazine called “The Reformer” by ASCD Pakistan. She has also conducted various community development initiatives including anti-harassment legal awareness and self-defense sessions for women. Fer Ghanaa completed her BA-LLB from Quaid-i-Azam University and has also completed her Masters in English Literature. During her undergraduate studies, she went to the US on a fully-funded semester exchange through the US State Department’s Global-UGRAD program. She participated in the Ventotene International Seminar on global federalism held in Italy, and in numerous moot court competitions as well.

Feroza Gulzar was Born and brought up in Quetta, Pakistan. She went to Karachi to complete Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture. Since graduation, she has constantly been on the move, which has fueled her passion for travel and has begun to deeply engage herself into teaching in different parts of Pakistan. She uses letters and photography to tell small, fragmentary stories emerging from her travel experiences in different places. She has been part of different art residencies nationally and internationally. After volunteering for 5 years in Karachi in different organizations as a teacher, she started her own organization with the name of “Aabyari”. The Aim of the organization is community building, creative learning/ writing, sports and storytelling in different parts of Pakistan. The organization has worked with Govt. School Kamra, Govt. School and a Madrassa in Karore, Govt. School in Gulmit (Hunza), SOS Rawalpindi, and is currently working with Fareezah school in Rawalpindi.

800 policemen meditated for peace and love on the tunes of Rubab. Where there are cases like Salahuddin of serious misconducts from police, there are also the majority of them who are working for peace. News keep popping up every now and then about police failing the citizens. It is so heart wrenching that the peacekeepers go against their oath and commit serious crimes. But, behind the curtain of negative face of police, there are thousands of stories of them sacrificing every day for the people and we as a society have failed to acknowledge it even once. Especially, now when the police department is trying so hard to fulfil their duties. We should be empathetic to the people who are on call day and night to counter crimes and ensure our safety. In this regard, one of our Salamti Fellows Laila Kiran conducted a mass meditation and peace talk session in National Police Academy, Rawat. The session targeted the young Police personnel who are under training in Police academy. The evening included peace talks focusing on the importance of being empathetic and showing a compassionate behavior. Young trainees were also being taught about carrying the nondiscriminatory attitude with others regardless of their caste, color, religion or ethnicity. Further the activity included meditation session where the peacekeepers were introduced to inner peace so they can better maintain peace outside. The meditation was held in open ground during full moon night in order to connect with the universal vibes and to help them embrace the natural capacity and positive intuitions.

Ehsam is the founder of Pakistan Innovation Summit for Education-PISE, a youth led organization that promotes education in the far flung areas of Pakistan. He has established libraries, tech centers, women entrepreneurship centers, and worked with the local government to tackle climate crisis in Hunza (Northern Pakistan). Ehsam also designed a cross-cultural fellowship program for the youth of Pakistan to understand the issues faced by Northern Pakistan. In summer 2019, Ehsam participated in SRHR workshop with Rise Up in US. He also attended the University of the Underground’s summer school. He is currently chairing ‘E-Rozgaar’- a tech program formed in partnership with the government of Gilgit-Baltistan that aims to eliminate unemployment by providing digital skills to the youth in the region.

Sail Muhammad the Managing director of (Dust on Books) is a Bacha Khan Fellow and the coordinator of youth peace network Sawbi.He is also the chairman of a local support organisation Sawbi, who runs a handicrafts centre, career counseling, women rights and education locally and active member of “Aware girls” and national youth organisation Sawbi. He was born in Sawabi and student of the university of swabi sociology department . Sail Muhammad is a peace, social and political activist. In 2014 he was elected as Bacha Khan Fellow and then he joined youth peace network. He then started a campaign in his home town of Sawabi with the name “we can bring peace” through which he wanted to educate youth about human rights, women rights and peace. He would also guide youth to prevent them from getting into the hands of terrorist organisations. For this he started arranging positive activities such as sports, musical and other competitions. He has also initiated Aman sports academy and Aman rabab academy and arranges cultural programmes in different cities. In addition he also campaigned about banning fake guns. He thinks that these kind of toys are making our young ones violent, and would be better if they were given a book instead. This made him join DustonBooks. He started gathering like minded students and These students campaign for peace in their villages, colleges and Universities.

Mr. Bilal Khan is a music enthusiast, a music teacher, a social worker and peace activist. Graduated from University of Malakand in sociology. He moved to Islamabad for further studies. Having passion for music he built his skills in Rubab (Musical string instrument) playing and nertured his level upto the best music teacher, which led him to establish a proper music school in January 2018 with the name Ahang Kada Arts and Music school in Islamabad. Ahang Kada music school, having diverse students play a wonderful role not only to spread musical knowledge but cultural engagement and harmony too is one its core achievements. He is the executive member of Acts of Kindness (volunteer based social organization) and the fellow of Salamati Fellowship. In September 2015 he got 1st prize at National Grand Rubab contest arranged by Lok Virsa Islamabad. In December 2015 he got Innovation Youth Award.

Wardah Gull, our ‘Peace Agents’ from Bahawalpur (South Punjab) conducted a one-day peace camp at Islamia University, Bahawalpur. Her aim was to implement the practices that she learnt from Salamti Fellowship Program. The workshop consisted of English and Urdu declamation contest along with a lecture on the importance of peace. Topic for the English declamation debate was ‘Importance of peace in our society’ and in Urdu it was ‘Shidat nahi Muhabbat (peace, not violence). The purpose of this declamation contest was to create awareness among the students that how crucial peace is for the society.

Tooba Tahir is an educator with a specialization in teaching through arts and media. She has a multi-faceted profile which includes working with various educational institutes as well as media and production companies. Tooba is a people’s person and her major strengths lie in public speaking, documentary making and performing and she holds great aspirations for working with young students from all kinds of different backgrounds. Her current practice includes teaching middle school and higher education students. Tooba graduated with a Bachelors in Tv and Film from PAF-KIET, College of Media & Arts from Karachi in 2016 and completed her Masters in Arts Education from Beacon house National University, Lahore. Her thesis was about the “psychosocial issues of the young adults” which helped her explore mental health issues and what methods can be applied which can lead towards self-healing. Her future vision is to enable people to be more self-aware, find their full human potential in order to be the best version of themselves and to be helpful to others.

Zainab Masood is currently serving as a Cambridge International’s O Levels instructor for Business Studies and Economics at The City School, Lahore. She is a firm believer that empathy has the innate nature and strength to change the world positively and she undertakes several school activities as a Welfare Club In-charge to inculcate these values among her school community. She has also served as a Community Engagement Executive for Rizq previously, a local food saving NGO in Pakistan with its operations based in Lahore and Islamabad. She has worked with the Volunteer Programs and developed curriculums for different age groups; the themes intended for them to realize that the essence of being human is being compassionate and empathetic; a core value of the organization and something she advocates in her life as well. She has been involved in the academia sector since she was an Undergraduate student having served as a volunteer and intern for TCF and SOS. She has participated in different program streams catering education in these institutions, which range from mentoring and coaching underprivileged students for University Tests and Interviews to launching independent projects for orphans revolving around bullying and confidence building. Ms. Masood is also a Spring 2017 UGRAD alumna, which is a cultural exchange program that takes places in the US. Her exposure to diverse cultures and importance of community service helped her understand that the way to global peace is cross cultural integration and dialogue.

Hareem Aqdas is an intellectual and research-oriented college student with a current CGPA 3.8/4, enrolled in last semester of bachelor’s in international relations and politics, currently attending Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad. She originally belongs to a small town of Central Punjab, Jhang. During her academic career, she also managed to get involved in practical research and implementation of my studies. She envisions becoming a United Nation’s diplomat to render my services in the international and diplomatic spheres of Pakistan, particularly under the UN Peacekeeping mechanism. She is keen towards finding potential solutions to problems that concern my country on its basic questions of peace, international law, security, diplomacy, governance and stability through factual, authentic and evidence-based research while working on potential solutions she find during her research. She has already worked on three research papers on issues concerning the contemporary strategic/ diplomatic and legal threats to Pakistan, the matters that concern the peace, stability, sovereignty, the law, governance and security of the country directly and she is motivated towards continuing to do so. She has done multiple projects in these domains and currently continuing her work under the implementation of international humanitarian law in Pakistan. Her most recent research project is underway that involves the case of custodial police torture by Pakistan’s police for evidence extraction and its implications in the international law. This project aims to find a solution to this problem and recommending them to the government. This would help find loopholes in the implementation of the international humanitarian law in Pakistan, particularly among the legal and bureaucratic structures of Pakistan. The research papers she has written are titled as firstly, “Afghanistan Peace Process- Beyond 2018” (which has been written based on qualitative research done from individuals being the direct victims of the problem from around the country and gives a possible solution of how the concerning matter can be resolved, though yet the paper has not been published). She also is involved in social work through a self-initiated project named “Women in Politics” where she motivate women from rural areas of Pakistan to join as political representatives’ politics from their respective areas being their primary motive to either join politics from their areas or to have a say in their political life either through vote, representation, association or contribution. She is also contributing from her native area as a young women politician and as a mentor for women who wish to pursue politics as a career through leading private training sessions and mentorship. She has worked as a legal research assistant for attacks against journalists in Pakistan with an NGO called ‘Media Matters for Democracy’ whereby assisting in making reports of the safety of journalists in Pakistan and ensuring it by what the national law provides them. I had also been involved in their digital rights project whereby submitting an abstract on digital and cyber safety. I was also responsible to follow through the legal activities relating to the provision of freedom of expression in Pakistan and also, the court proceedings that journalists had to go through while suggesting them legal options. She has also had the privilege of working as a researcher at the Strategic Vision Institute, Islamabad and for social work-related NGOs that gave her a better insight of the society around me, adding to a necessary detail required in strategy formulation- the society. She has also been a part of U.S. Summer Sister’s Exchange Program in 2015, under Girls Leadership Worldwide at Eleanor Roosevelt Leadership Centre at Val-Kill, New York for training in leadership. She is working as major contributor in an international project called “The Dialogue Room” where they are working on building a community of likeminded individuals wherein they provide a platform to initiate conversation for exchange of thoughts, ideas, beliefs, innovation etc. In both my academic and professional life, she has been consistently praised as a “curious mind eager to learn, stimulate, question and finding solutions” by her professors and peers. Whether working on an academic, extracurricular, or professional project, she has proven to have a research-oriented mindset, with administrative attitude, excellent writing, interpersonal, leadership and organizing skills.

Mehtab is a passionate traveler, entrepreneur and has also worked in the field of journalism. With the aim of starting his career in the field of journalism, Mehtab started working with ARY news as a research associate for national and international news. He is currently working as Staff Reporter and Content writer with Mélange International magazine and the Asian Telegraph newspaper that has helped him to develop an extrinsic attitude towards working in the national and international media. Mehtab founded KARWAN Pakistan in 2015 with the aim to explore Arts, Culture & Tourism in Pakistan and also to organize projects for community service development where he collects donations for educational and medical camps setup across Punjab and northern areas of Pakistan. He believes, Pakistan is a land of Peace but unfortunately, the world is being shown a dark side of Pakistan and is ignoring all its positivity. The international media has only presented a negative image of Pakistan whereas the true picture of Pakistan is entirely different from what is being projected. Mission KARWAN was initiated to promote peaceful image of Pakistan in International arena. Under the supervision of mehtab, Karwan have been doing so since 2015 from the Southern banks of the country to the Northern hill side weather, it’s the cultures of Punjab or the colors of Sindh, the foods of Khyber or the rains of the capital the quest for exploring Pakistan has never stopped for him.

Rida Tanvir is a PhD scholar of International Relations at Quaid I Azam University with her specialty on Terrorism and Counter Terrorism and Extremism. She is also specializing on the subject of cultural impacts on Nationalism in Iran. Apart from that Rida is the peace ambassador for Shaoor Foundation for Education and Awareness Pakistan. Rida has served as a visiting faculty member for Quaid I Azam University for over 3 years and has delivered the message of peace and love in the beginning of every class. Rida has been quite active in volunteer work since the age of 9 when she volunteered for a school plantation campaign. She also volunteered for charity collection initiative for a Shaukat Khanum cancer hospital. She occasionally conducts one day camp on a lower level by helping underprivileged people through provision food and clothes. She is a promoter of the rights of the transgender community. Rida has also worked on the awareness of Thalassemia blood disorder awareness drive and have often provided herself and others for the noble cause of blood donation. She is currently a currently an adviser to Youth General Assembly which works for the policy building in regards to education for all. Rida is keen supporter of empowered women and stands as such. She aspires to own an NGO of her own where she can help the neglected and deprived souls of her country and someday even break the barriers of the border to serve humanity as whole.

Hammad Khalid hosted a meditation session for the students at local college in Qayumabad, Karachi. The session started off by introducing the participants to the concepts of peace building, conflict resolution/management and counter terrorism. It also shed light on internal peace as a mean to external peace and how our society is in dire need of peace agents to spread positive energy and resolve issues tactfully. The session also included meditation in the “Half Lotus Position” with flute music being played in the background. Since, this was a kick start to introduce children to meditation and PIPO (Peace-In, Peace-Out), it was planned to last for around 8 to 10 minutes but remarkably, with the immersion of students and their response, it was stretched it to over 30 minutes.

With support of some donor he’s maintaining Emergency Fund to connect potential donors with underprivileged ones who are facing financial constraints related to Health and Education. In past natural tragedies Earthquakes, Floods and Internally displaced persons issue after military operations he has worked with military and local authorities for the rehabilitation of affected ones. Currently he’s setting up a platform Zariya to support, educate and empower marginal communities of Pakistan. Currently he’s working with underprivileged schools and local communities to inspire and motivate kids to shape their future. He’s a strong believer of individual change and playing his part to make this world a better and equal place to live. Hasan was part of the youth delegation from Pakistan that went to china to study Poverty alleviation and SMEs on the invitation of youth council of China. Hasan has worked as Development practitioner on qualitative monitoring for UNICEF improving adolescent lives in Pakistan and Impact Assessment of Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development Program for several groups, including Palladium, UNICEF and FINCON Services in Pakistan. Through these experiences, He developed strong project coordination, implementation and research skills. Altamash Khan is a fresh graduate of Social Work, and is currently working with Global Schools Program on integrating UN SDGs in primary schools curriculums, has actively worked on children’s formal and informal education within the local slums of Peshawar, social entrepreneurship has been the center of his effort to create innovative and sustainable solutions for social problems like unemployment, the pursuit led to his idea of “Communication Skills” being shortlisted in The Youth Innovation Challenge Khyber Pakhtunkhwa supported by UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) and KPITB (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board), and as result 200 students were trained from 3 different departments increasing the chances of academic growth and employment, he has also been a United Nations Civic Education Youth Volunteer, his responsibilities included creating awareness in the local rural communities about the civic education and its relevant topics such as good governance, active citizen engagement, human rights and voter rights. He has been resiliently involved in the advocacy for transgender rights, child rights and against “Gender Based Violence” through short plays conducted in the universities, as a social worker he also worked with Hamza Foundation Peshawar supporting thalassemia patients, with CPWC (Child Protection Welfare Commission KP) on rising issues of child abuse and exploitation and with Paraplegic Center Peshawar on supporting paraplegic patients. He has been a part of effort in realizing minority rights, social cohesion and interfaith harmony through constantly engaging university students as agents of change-makers in their communities. As a Salamti Fellow, he’s pursuing to sensitize people against violence, to clamp down the calamities of extremism and to make way for a peaceful society.

Marina hails from the city of flowers- Peshawar and like her name she has got completely diversified interests from her educational background. She is a Chemical Engineer by profession with a specialized Master’s degree in Renewable Energy Engineering along with a parallel degree in Human Resources Management. Marina is an International Exchange Alumna of SUSI- Study of US Institutes Program for Women’s Leadership Institute graduated from the University of Kansas as a women leader and, serving as a cultural ambassador of US Department of State and Russian Clan Leader for Pakistan. She has been declared as the Global Exchange Ambassador of Pakistan, Nepal and Turkey. Marina started writing by the age of 11 when her first poem was published by Colgate’s Bright Smile program. She has worked as a content writer with various national and international organizations including USAID and German Red Cross. She has been actively involved in the social sector from last 7 years where she worked for women empowerment and STEM for women in KP. Her passion to solve community problems make her get involved in civic innovation through different projects. Her life cycle revolves around a slogan she always uses: “Learn! Educate! & Motivate! ”. Marina is a handmade jewelry designer which made her capable of leading her own startup. She loves cooking and she is a traveler by soul, and that is why her friends call her “Peripatetic- A lost wanderer”. She’s been a part of 3 major Fellowships of Pakistan including Salamti Fellowship which brought her the title of Peace Agent. Marina was also a part of Code for Pakistan as a fellow in Government Innovation Lab (GIL) at DURSHAL for KP Government Innovation Fellowship Program 2018 where she developed KP’s first open data portal for General public. Muzammil is a student activist and a part of the transnational campaign “Peace Without Borders” by Shaoor Foundation for Education and Awareness. He maintains special interest in issues related to mental health and drug abuse among college and university students. Muzammil is currently halfway through his undergraduate at Institute of Business Administration Karachi, where he is a part of Youth Wing of United Nations Associations of Pakistan. Muzammil’s work focuses on identifying and combating the causes of increased use of drug abuse amongst the student and raising awareness regarding the severity of the issue in the society. Since he plans to join the corporate sector after graduation, his aim is to bring the above issues under the light of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaigns of high-profile public and private companies, in order to help young student-activists increase the magnitude of their efforts. Muzammil has a strong passion for meditation and mindfulness-focused lifestyle, following which he conducts small meditation sessions with his friends occasionally. Shehryar Zulfiqar is a peace agent with special interest in inter faith, inter sect harmony, tolerance and coexistence. Shehryar is keenly interested in playing his part for an accepting society open for critical thinking, tolerance and dissent. He has been engaged with various programs working for peace and tolerance. He has been a participant of Shahoor Foundation Salamti Fellowship Cohort II. Shehryar is also an official member of Amnesty International and has been working with the organization since 2016 in various campaigns through digital activism. He has also volunteered for CPDR (Centre for Peace, Development and Reform) working on first-ever UN human rights report on Kashmir in June, 2018. He has been a part of campaign “Aik better together” organized by Hive Pakistan that uses the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah for building community resilience and counter-messaging against extremist narratives. As a student of Chartered Accountancy, he is interested in countering economic inequalities in society. He has participated in various events on tax injustice and income inequalities organized by CDA. He is an active member of Fight inequality forum. He has volunteered for more than 50 community engagement programs since 2015. Shehryar is passionately involved in political and social activism. He has been a part of many civil rights movements in Lahore. He has been on the forefront and amongst the organizers of peaceful walks and protests organized by civil society of Lahore on various issues including Mashal Khan’s lynching, Lahore Bomb blasts and Sahiwal killings. Shehryar is playing his part for a peaceful and progressive society through his poetry and short stories. His socio-political and literary work is connecting communities within Pakistan through message of coexistence and inclusivity by molting barriers shaped by chauvinism, fundamentalism and radicalism. Ayesha is a psychologist, writer, a mental health advocate and an animal rights activist. She is currently enrolled in her Masters degree program to specialise in Clinical psychology and professional counselling. She has worked closely as an intern with children with special needs in Army special education academy, Rawalpindi and has designed several learning activities for children in her term. She has also served as an intern at the Fauji Foundation hospital and dealt with several cases independently. She has also conducted positive wellbeing and safety sessions in small, local schools of Rawalpindi. Ayesha has been among the top 20 finalists for the SDG 16 challenge initiated by UNDP Pakistan and The Accountability lab. She has also been a part of several trainings including one on Harm reduction and drug policies in Pakistan, conducted by da Hawwa lur. She further introduced the new concept of Harm reduction within her community. Ayesha has also been a part of Salamti Fellowship Cohort II. She has also volunteered for various environmental projects, plantation drives and social welfare activities. Reading philosophy, religion and spirituality and astronomy since childhood, Ayesha has developed deep interest in the respective areas and she continues to write poetry, especially thematic to social issues and mental health dilemmas. Asad Ali Khan is a passionate volunteer working in different capacities for the peace building in southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. By profession he is working as Assistant Director Quality Assurance in Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan. By Qualification he is currently doing his M.Phil in management studies. To address the multi-pronged challenges, Asad Ali Khan campaigned to spread awareness among the people of district Tank and Dera Ismail Khan regarding peace building. He spoke for their rights and called on them to shun those elements which are the reason behind their difficulties. He conducted many focus group and roundtable discussions, and entered into dialogue with members of civil society and local communities. He also used sports and social gathering as a tool for peace building. He was also part of the United Nations world conference on youth for the thematic area “Peace Building and Reconciliation” in Colombo Sri Lanka. He recalled that the various trainings relevant to conflict resolution and peace building processes taught him diverse ways to build dialogue and highlight the challenges posed by conflict in these southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Moreover, the training also enhanced his confidence in speaking publicly about conflict resolution. “I feel that by using these methods and skills, I can explicitly discuss the matter to increase awareness amongst the masses. Referring to the benefits and outcomes of the trainings, Asad Ali Khan said that the pace of his campaign for awareness has increased. He has conducted many awareness sessions in schools, colleges and public gatherings to sensitize the people about the root causes of conflicts and violence and how we can overcome this mess.

Farwa Batool, an adventurous soul with a compassionate heart is struggling hard to adjust in this chaotic world. She is a student of literature and portrays some of the ugly truths of society with a little garnishing of pretty lies in her writings because that’s what literature is all about; the lies that tell the truth. She has been volunteering since early age with in her community (Hazara) that is a minority in Pakistan and remained the victim of terrorism by some extremist groups of the country for the last two decades. Patriarchy and lack of critical thinking are the challenges of the society she has faced which lead her to work for these couple of issues. Domestic and sexual violence against women, hate speech and extremism, lack of social awareness for individuals rights and less educational and career opportunities for a minority became the catalyst that compelled her to step out of her door and stand against the stereotypes of society while pursuing education out of her province i.e Baluchistan on scholarship to make other girls set aim of theirs. She is an active member of Future is Young; a networking platform of youth and mentors that provides and updates about scholarships, jobs, internships and fellowship opportunities to the deserving individuals. She also worked as fellow with BTC (Beyond The Classroom) that conducts critical thinking workshops in low income schools, with an aim to boost critical thinking, empathy and leadership skills. She writes for Independent Urdu and through her writings she tries hard to contribute for peace and inclusiveness. She is a Salamti Fellow, and is currently working on her Peace Project, “TAP” – Teachers as Peace Agents under her organisation, “NAPA” – National Association of Peace Advocates”, and plans on training 1000 students per year to become progressive Peace agents.

Saira Zahid belongs to the land of mountains called Skardu. A student of English Literature, she has a deep interest in music, art and literature. She is passionate about books, poetry and photography. Saira is a travel enthusiast, a blogger and an activist. She is currently working as a program coordinator and content writing head of Young Leadership Program and Madrasa Leadership Program, respectively. She is also the president of Pyaam Society at UOL. Her focus is on building interfaith harmony and inclusion by bridging the gap between different communities. She has been actively participating in both national and international events. She has participated in many leadership programs too. She has recently completed a training on investigative journalism and digital security from Jakarta Indonesia. Saira has spoken about environmental issues in front of a diverse audience. She also speaks against inequality and has been part of ‘Fight Youth Against Inequality Alliance’ by OXFAM and CHANAN. Saira is also passionate about animal rights and documents their issues and struggles under her Instagram blog. She worked with Pakistan US Alumni Network Gilgit Baltistan chapter as Youth Director. She has volunteered for more than twenty organizations and has worked on different community engagement programs and social, global issues. He is working on formulating national Monitoring and Evaluation Framework for SDGs. He also teaches Urban Economics to senior students at school of Economics, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. An Erasmus Mundas Scholar, he holds master in macroeconomics and financial policies from University of Paris and University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has experience of working with youth in Pakistan. Gilgit-Baltistan Youth Summit 2016 was held under his supervision sponsored by US Embassy in Pakistan. He also worked as United Nations Volunteer (UNV) with UNDP for six month training students on civic education. He was also involved in ethnographic study for studying adolescents’ inspirations and aspiration in two villages in rural Sindh. His interest revolve around cities, youth, innovation and ideas for sustainable future communities.

Hira Aslam is a finance graduate from the Lahore University of Management Sciences with keen interest in entrepreneurship and social service. She is currently working as a product consultant at S&P Global Market Intelligence, which aims to power the markets of the future by providing essential intelligence. Apart from her daily tasks she has been involved in equipping herself with technical and interpersonal skills helping her work better in teams both at work and outside. She has also actively led her team at a Design Thinking workshop, presenting ideas for a sustainable environment in the workplace. Her work outside of employment focuses on advocating for the need of developing entrepreneurial personalities with in youth and women for a sustainable livelihood. Moreover, Hira is a former Steering Committee member of the LUMS Entrepreneurial Society, a student run organization that plans and executes business competitions, workshops and boot camps to foster the entrepreneurial spirit in students all across Pakistan. She, herself has represented her university and country in various business competitions locally and internationally, the most recent one being the Rome Business Game in 2019. She was also part of the team that delivered a training session on Entrepreneurship at the National Youth Summit held in Azad Kashmir in 2019. Furthermore, she led the Pakistani delegation to South Korea for Youth Camp for Asia’s Future in 2016 to participate in a dialogue about youth involvement in current social issues as well as to promote Pakistani culture. Her interests expand to sports as well having led a Varsity Basketball team as captain into several tournaments. Having support from the Salamti Fellowship Program, she has recently started working on a social initiative called Justaju, which aims to highlight women’s right to dream. After the qualification of “Messenger of Peace “I did voluntary service with IDBSA and PHQ for the creation of peace and harmony in the society. I did voluntary service as a camp organizer in distinct areas of interior Sindh for the readily approach of academic and soft skills among those children who are deprived from their inalienable rights. After Salamti Fellowship Cohort III, It had given a notion to create “Justice for All”. Its short-term aim will be creating awareness pertinent to Fundamental rights and Human rights. Subsequently, its long- term planning will embodies a platform for needy people who are unaware about the legal procedures and provide assistance to them when their rights will be abridged. In a nutshell, “Justice for All” will work for the creation of peaceful society by elimination of violence, radicalization, counter terrorism and extremism.

Sidra Khan is a women’s right advocate and a peace-builder. Her special interest lies in peace activism and women empowerment. Her social work is focused on achieving SDG 5 and 16 which are gender equality and peace, justice and strong institutions. For the past one year, she has been closely working with marginalized women and young people to build their capacity, vocational skills, critical thinking skills, entrepreneurship skills, and STEM education. She has been successful in bridging the gap between the SDGs and their implementation in marginalized communities by organizing various awareness/advocacy camps, sessions, seminars, panel discussions, and workshops in Karachi. She has also worked as a journalist in leading media houses and her experience has enabled her to understand the grass root issues faced by women and youth in Pakistan. Women empowerment has been at the core of her news coverage and now, social work along with peacebuilding amongst youth. She has acquired various skills through her nonprofit experience which includes the ability to collaborate with diverse groups, self-initiative attitude, long-term commitment to and passion for cause based and mission-driven work. Sidra carries major interests in the subjects like peacebuilding and women’s right. She regularly organizes training sessions on peace building, and critical thinking for marginalized youth and awareness sessions for marginalized women to turn them into resilient communities. He had also worked as research assistant in women empowerment group Lahore (A national base Non-Government Organization). In July 2017, he had participated in 2 weeks Summer School titled as “Human Rights and Contribution of Religions” at University of Erfurt, Germany. Moreover He had participated in 7 days salamti fellowship program on the board of peace without boardr’s at whispering pines resort Islamabad. Above all, Shoaib is Co-Founder and ex-President of Naeemia Intellectual Forum, a Madrasa based student literary society. NIF conducts discussions, talks, workshops and seminars on different issues pertaining to religion, society and politics. Shoaib carries major interests in the subjects like peacebuilding, interfaith dialogue, preventing religious extremism and Islam and women. His specific area of interest is socio political theory of Islam. He regularly conducts training sessions and workshops on peace narrative building, fill the gap between Madrasa and University students, train Madrasa students on modern bases.

I am an educationist by profession and social worker and entrepreneur by passion. Currently, I am working at university level with student’s bodies in order to organize different events and sessions for the career growth and personal development of novice students. Besides this, I am an active citizen who is playing the role in his community for the sake of development and community cohesion. Being an educationist, I feel the responsibility to purfle the youth of my area and its surroundings with the ornament of education. For this noble cause, locally, I have organized different seminars to aware peoples about the importance of education. As the fruit of this volunteer work is sweet as many parents have enrolled their children in schools instead of engaging the capital (youth) in child labor. Moreover, I have engaged myself in mentoring students and provided them additional support (tutoring) in their academics. A part from this, for me, entrepreneurship is like an oxygen pump and at present I am working on developing an online platform to transform the skills of the peoples especially women of my area into an asset as they are very expert in handicrafts. I want to create a community where there is employment, peace, development and prosperity.

Hamza is also an alumna of Global undergraduate cultural exchange program (US-2017). Hamza has volunteered with different societies in university and also on individual basis. Beside that he has volunteered in different social projects in more than 4 states in USA through various community engagement programs. Aarti is a researcher and development consultant in a pursuit to empower communities and build ecosystems with ideas, knowledge, skills and technology. She graduated with a degree in Social Development and Policy and recently completed a design leader lab on the theme of gender equality and social justice at the Swedish Institute to strengthen her ability as a leader and contribute to peaceful and inclusive societies through design and advocacy. Currently, she is working at Engro Foundation as a Sustainability Associate and is overseeing the design models, fundraising and monitoring and evaluation of different inclusive projects for several Engro portfolios. In addition, she works with Shirkat Gah, Insan Foundation Trust and UNDP as a trainer and facilitator for women and young girls with the aim to empower women against gender inequality and structural violence against women with a focus of mental health and psychosocial needs and to advocate peace and security for women and religious minorities in the city. Her role is to plan, facilitate and manage training workshops and social action initiatives incluiding cycling, boxing and photograhy within the feminist ‘hubs’ of Karachi. Being a part of this network, she has reached around 1, 800 marginalized women over a period of two years through gender sensitization trainings and contributed to grassroots level projects, advocacy campaigns and forums to empower and mobilize women in different parts of Karachi especially small towns and slums in the vicinity like Lyari, Baldia Town and Ibrahim Hyderi. She is also serving as an Impact Officer at Global Shapers Community Karachi Hub, an initiative of the World Economic Forum. Her role includes to train Hub members on successful project design and tools for meaningful measurement, conduct and participate in mid-project reviews to monitor progress in the Hub and collaborate with Impact Officers around the world to develop and track effective metrics for measuring project impact locally and globally.

Her thesis focused on “Role of Facebook Hate Speech in the escalation of Inter Ethnic and Inter Sectarian Hatred in Quetta”. She aims to raise awareness of Hate Speech, Harassment and Bullying in cyberspace. She is passionate to sensitize youth on common stereotypes against gender, ethnicity and faith. She is an educational enthusiast having a huge experience of teaching English Language as ESL in school and different English language academies. She is a social activist rendering her volunteer services in community for education, capacity-building, peace-building, and life skills based education. Being a literature enthusiast, she reads and writes in Urdu and English languages, and has been a member of community literary group, Maktab-e-Sukhan, Quetta. Regular participation in annual and seasonal musha’eera conducted by Maktab-e-Sukhan, Bazm-e Khusro Pakistan, and Hazargi Adab Academy in Quetta. She is currently working as a business development officer with a Health based startup in Islamabad and she is also the co-founder of “Local Wocal” which is helping the local farmers and artisan to have access to the bigger market. She has also worked with LUMS in the KP impact challenge project. She has knowledge of developing M&E systems, Conflict analysis, Conflict Management and Conducting Research Studies. Her field experience includes monitoring and designing projects related to youth development, health, education and research studies. She has been involved in voluntary work since 2010, she has been a volunteer of Aga Khan Health Services, Aga Khan Education Services, Aga Khan Council for Pakistan and Chitral Heritage and Environmental Society. Her personal skills include the ability to multitask, stay organized and to adjust to different work conditions in a fast and timely fashion. It also includes being dependable, organized and observant with the ability to pay close to attention to detail. Asma Bangash

Asma Bangash is a law graduate from Islamia College University Peshawar working as an advocate at session and high courts. Born and brought up in a conservative Pashtun tribal family from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan, she has managed it hard to make it to law school after facing resistance within. Thus, she understands the importance of rule of law, social justice and human rights in the first place. Being a social activist and leadership enthusiast she is working to broaden the wisdom so that she can act as a change agent later in triggering an awareness campaign for inter-faith harmony, human rights and rule of law through media, seminars, student and non-governmental forums and interaction with legislators, jurists and religious scholars (Ulemas). Asma Bangash has been working with UNHCR and UNDP as a pro-bono lawyer for the past 5 years, helping with refugees’ issues in Pakistan and free legal aid to refugees. Also, worked on child labor issues with child protection bureau KPK specially in district Kohat. She has also served as lady counsellor in the local govt. at district Kohat for two years, helped school and college girls to create awareness in gender equality, to participate in sports and know their rights. Asma Bangash is co-chairperson of jail and prisoner’s inspection committee of Islamabad high court bar association and looks after basic human rights of prisoners in jail and right to trial, paying surprise visits and reporting on prison and prisoners’ issues. She hopes to help implement, promote, and protect human rights, rule of law and interfaith harmony in Pakistan and developing countries. She feels that all people, both inside and outside our nation’s borders- have a right to social equality regardless of socio-economic standards and live at peace. International peace and rule of law is a single liner mission statement of her life.

She has had the honor of winning a bronze medal in Wushu on interprovincial level. She was also part of the FATA Striker cricket team at national level. Apart from being a sportsperson she is also a researcher, CJ, social activist, and peace agent. She has previously worked with different organizations like UNDP, FRC, and UN Women as a researcher to conduct research on different issues pertaining to females at the conflict-prone merged district or Ex-FATA. Jamaima has also worked as a grass root leader with NDI, CGPA, and “She-Lead” to highlight local issues especially related to females. Currently she is working as a CJ (citizen journalist) with TNN (Tribal News Network) and Maati T.V. Being a CJ (citizen journalist) she continuously tries to highpoint those issues which are not highlighted by mainstream media. She is also serving as a finance secretary of the “Waak” movement. The movement aims to work for the betterment of female living standards and to ensure their political and economic rights. She was also fortunate enough to complete the English Access Micro scholarship program which was headed by US Consulate General Peshawar. Along with that she is also a PUAN Alumni. Additionally, she is a travelling enthusiast who has an eye for capturing beautiful moments. She loves to capture moments depicting coexistence, peace, and harmony. Uzair Salman

Uzair Salman is an MPhil scholar, a philosophy enthusiast, and an op-ed writer having had his work featured in some of Pakistan’s leading English dailies and magazines. He is currently employed at ICARUS Incorporated as a Research Associate having been assigned the task of executing an FCDO funded project called Delivering Accelerated Family Planning in Pakistan—widely known by its acronym DAFPAK—and heads the editorial board of The Mirror of Society—a bilingual youth magazine—as its Executive Editor. Having remained a victim of extremism oftentimes perpetrated along religious and sectarian lines, Uzair’s one aim, among varying others, it is to ascertain that he plays his imputable role in riding the society of extremist ideologies; a role that, at times, comes at the cost of putting one’s life in harm’s way. Notwithstanding the obstacles that his path is fraught with, he is determined that with tenacious efforts and a profound understanding of the problems that we are grappling with, his name will, sooner than later, be counted among those responsible for the amelioration of the society-at-large.

Sana Sattar is a student currently enrolled in 7th semester of Food Sciences and Technology from University of Agriculture Faisalabad. She is a resident of Faisalabad. Social work has been her centre of attention since past years. She is working on education of those children who cannot afford to read and write, particularly child laborers and children of slum areas under the umbrella of Umeed Foundation, providing free and quality education in evening hours. Till date, 20 free schools are operating in different regions of Pakistan with more than 3000 children getting free education with the cost of their education fee, stationary and uniform cost. She has also worked with UNDP as United Nations Civic Education Volunteer under the project named SELP (Strengthening Electoral and Legislative Processes) which aimed to raise awareness among underprivileged communities about Civic Education, rights and responsibilities of citizens, active Civic Engagement, NIC and voter registration. In her seven months tenure, she’s been able to educate more than 2600 people about civic education in compliance with SDG 16. Sana sattar is currently working with NCJP (National Commission for Justice and Peace) as Human Rights Defender under the project of HEAT to raise awareness about issues of minorities among underprivileged areas. Currently she has also been working with CHRE (Centre for Human Rights Education) to raise awareness about peace and Tolerance among society in order to minimize violence and extremism. She has dedicated her work to promote education, peace and Tolerance, basic human rights being more particularly child rights and transgenders rights by engaging youth of universities and colleges. She has also been working with less educated people to make them aware about basic human rights and responsibilities to put society into a better place. She is also involved in extracurricular training of slum children to build confidence, integrity and self esteem among those children. She has been a part of efforts to promote minority rights, interfaith harmony, social integrity and peaceful dialogues among youth of institutions so they can play their role as peace agents in society.

Abishay Gill hails from Lahore Pakistan. He has always been actively involved in extracurricular activities during his educational journey. He has interned in different NGOs and hospitals to fight against poverty. He aspires to be an established filmmaker. Currently he is making short films on marginalized communities living in Pakistan. Previously he has worked with WWF Pakistan, Shaukat Khanum hospital and Pakistan’s most prestigious and only government channel PTV in the Production Department. He was also a cultural ambassador of Pakistan in the USA and got selected from more than 12000 students. During that time he worked closely with the US State Department and got the opportunity to visit different states to represent Pakistan. Abishay Gill is an enthusiastic short film maker aiming to make short films on societal issues. After completing his post production he usually visits different rural and remote areas and gathers people so they can watch his films and learn how to tackle different problems. Those problems include family planning, sexual reproductive health rights, and minority rights.

Mary Pervaiz is a Lahore based mental health professional. Having an experience at working for various public and private organizations she derives a holistic approach towards mental health. Noor Girls Shelter Home, Human Rights Crisis Centre Lahore, Willing Ways, Infinite 8 Institute US, Family Services and Schlegal Centre for Service and Justice are some of the places that she has worked with. She is the Director and co-founder of Thrive Psychological Services. Thrive provides counselling and clinical services and currently working on raising awareness about sex education as well as violence and abuse against all genders in Pakistan. She follows a holistic approach towards well-being and hence in partnership with The Fitness Lounge to ensure physical health as a priority to combat mental health issues.

Vishal Khemani

Born and raised in a remote part of desert Tharparkar, Vishal is a farmer, a social activist and an entrepreneurial being, who loves to work in diverse environments. Vishal has been an avid traveler and has been to 17 countries so far and wishes to travel to 30 countries before turning 30. Vishal possesses a diversity of experiences. He is a graduate from Lahore University of Management Sciences and has undertaken three semesters abroad. Currently he is working as Assistant Director at State Bank of Pakistan and his past experiences include being a part of Parliament, KPMG, Unilever and Consultants Group. He has been involved in social activism, engaging with civil society to promote social justice and empower vulnerable communities in Pakistan since his high school. His interest towards greater social action, inclusion and prosperity for the underprivileged led to initiation of a social enterprise named The-Netizens. It works with stakeholders to transform the under-privileged students into a well-informed technologically literate student. His interests lie towards bringing greater inclusion and prosperity and he dreams of a plural Pakistan. He is committed to advocating for the rights of ethnic-, linguistic- and religious-minorities and has contributed to national efforts to establish transitional justice mechanisms that would provide redress to victims. In 2016, he developed recommendations to the Parliament and was involved in civil society consultations on drafting legislation to promote interfaith and intrafaith harmony and tolerance to counterattack violence and extremism. He envisions himself as a global policy maker who not only improves the global standard of quality of life by working on 2030 UN SDGs but also enhances social welfare, thus, creating a better future for our upcoming generations.

Maryam Bilal is Finance Graduate from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan and is currently working as Hotel Manager. Leading and educating a diverse group of people with an approach of promoting people’s common basis has been her center of effort to promote equality, interfaith harmony, tolerance and humanistic beliefs at both individual and institutional level. She worked as a research consultant for UNICEF’s “Improving Adolescents lives in South Asia”. Reality Check Approach was the technique used to study the issues that specifically affect adolescents, like early marriage, reproductive health, access to education and safe work further compounded by contextualized religio-cultural, political and social changes. As a social leader, she seeks to spread the message of harmony and tolerance among the followers of all religion, beliefs and faith through educating people on “Avoid Sweeping Generalizations”

Gurjeet Singh belongs to Nankana Sahib and is a graduate from Government College University Lahore and is currently pursuing his MPhil in Biochemistry. He is an active Social worker who has been working on different things for the betterment of society. Besides this, he has been attending different training workshops on religious tolerance and acceptance. He also went on an international program to Nepal by the United Nation Youth Program. He has also been organizing different medical camps for people in backward areas. He participates and works on different religious events to promote peace and interfaith harmony. He also started a free Ambulance service in Nankana Sahib for the welfare of people. Currently, he is working on arranging different educational and medical camps for the people of his community. He believes in serving humanity at ground root level.

Rahila Emmanuel

Rahila Emmanuel is a development professional and has been working with international and national NGOs for the last 10 years. She has acquired a business management degree from Pakistan and secured a scholarship for a certification from the U.S. State Department. She has worked on national and internationally funded projects for social development, entrepreneurship, women empowerment, minority rights, peace and harmony in different regions of Pakistan. Her contribution towards women empowerment and ending gender based violence is highly commendable. Likewise, Rahila has successfully executed a women empowerment project solely based on economic empowerment of women to improve their social status Being an active member of Pakistan U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) she has co-facilitated a pilot project of U.S. Secretary of State’s Office of Religion and Global Affairs; DIYA (Days of Inter Religious Youth Action) for awareness raising among 50 diverse youth members to foster harmony. Under an alumni small grant project 200 plus youth members were trained from diverse religious communities on Nonviolent Communication (NVC) skills and overcame identity crisis to foster youth engagement for peace promotion. As a volunteer with Catholic Women Organization she has been facilitating training workshops on women empowerment. As a freelance trainer, she has delivered training workshops on various subjects ranging from Human Resource, Leadership, Team Building, Peace, Interfaith Harmony and Social Justice. Her areas of interest and expertise include networking, advocacy initiatives, human rights protection by enabling human rights defenders to report violations of their locale. She also has professional affiliations and is a member of several youth development, protection against gender based violence alliances and volunteer groups for social justice.

Shuraim Ahmad Malik is a Civil Engineer by profession and a humanist, peace activist and community leader by passion. He is a passionate traveler with a deep obsession in the study of politics, history and cultures. Currently, he is working as a Co-Founder and Lead Trainer with “Roshan Soch”, an initiative aimed to help guide young students of the community in selecting their careers and creating human rights awareness among themselves. Roshan Soch has organized 6 career counselling sessions in different schools and colleges up till now in which 300+ students were engaged. He has worked with Minerva as a Business Development Executive, an organization which provides recruitment services to its clients. He has been actively involved in youth policy making process with School of Leadership Foundation in association with Govt. of Pakistan and UNDP, attending Punjab Youth Led Policy Forum and then selected for National Youth Led Policy Forum in order to assist in highlighting major issues the youth of Pakistan is facing currently and propose solutions to address them. Apart from that, in order to better equip himself as a community leader, he has attended various leader development training programs including Young Leaders Conference, Alwandi Leadership Encampment, Social Media Leaders Conference, LCL Conference etc. At the grass root level, he is working with Karwaan-e-Iqbal in initiating ration distribution campaigns in which funds and ration are collected from rich people and are distributed among the needy ones. He has also worked as a member of the organizing committee for establishing the Wall of Kindness in Taxila, in which people leave their clothes and other things not used by them anymore and these things are then distributed among deserving people as per their need without any cost. Dherminder is a young journalist who belongs to the Cholistan desert in Pakistan. Dherminder graduated from Inter taking his degree from Government Khwaja Fareed Postgraduate College. He belongs to a well-read family, his grandfather was a writer and his father, Preetam Das Balach has been working at the Daily Express Urdu newspaper in Pakistan for 15 years as a correspondent. Dherminder has been involved with various social organisations within the city. He frequently attends workshops, trainings held by different NGOs. Through this, Dherminder found a way of continuing his education. Over a period of five years, Dherminder accumulated a lot of firsthand knowledge of minority, gender and religious rights. He also worked on peace, tolerance and pluralism. For a year, Dherminder also voluntarily taught the children of the village. In the future he plans to pursue proper higher education in journalism

He is a true believer that through the power of media, education and good communication, we can make this world a better place to live in. For this, he writes columns in an English newspaper with his prime focus on countering extremism and extremist narratives. He also works as a radio presenter and hosts a radio show named “*Radio Mukaalma (Radio Dialogue).” It is an effort to discuss those social issues on media which are of crucial importance and are much needed to talk about. He is also voluntarily working as “Friend of Corner” at Lincoln Corner. L.C is an initiative taken by the U.S. Consulate. It aims at promoting experiential and interactive learning through its diverse programming and well-designed sessions. He is the founder at Project Payback. It is an attempt to pay the society the best we have gotten from it so far. It encourages people to contribute in any capacity for the betterment of society and the world at large.

Harsimran is an MS Scholar who currently works as a Program Manager at Lincoln Corners at SFEA. She has always believed in humanity above all and all her thoughts and opinions are formed around this. Throughout her life as a minority in Pakistan all she has experienced is love and inclusivity and she will always be thankful for that. She has always desired to spread awareness that the only true and possible way to live, is together as fellow humans, without any kind of discrimination. Joining University was a turning point in her life as she gained a lot of knowledge through social work and activities regarding how she could play a part in making a better society. Soon she started volunteering wherever possible and that gave her the most joy. One of the best days of her life was when she was a part in arranging the first ever National Peace Conference at her University which included people from all backgrounds and Faith’s. Seeing the harmony and inclusivity among people that day instilled new faith within her. She has actively worked in promoting peace and tolerance through little events at her University. She is also a dedicated volunteer at her local Shaukat Khanum Force and works closely with other foundations dedicated to help those in need. She has been working on breaking the stereotypes specifically targeting certain gender in her area for a very long time by introducing the concepts of “Subconscious Mind Mechanism” and “Age is just a number” among youngsters. He is also playing an active role against the justice thereby he is playing the role of peace ambassador within the community in order to end up the clashes occurred on the basis of the religion and ethnicity basis and part of effort in realizing minority rights, social cohesion and interfaith harmony through public talk and reciting the poetry of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.

Ammar is a HR Professional and Learning & Development trainer in the development sector, currently working under USAID project, which nurtures a deep desire to aspire to inspire with an optimist approach while transforming positive youth empowerment and engagement through his community service and voluntary work to create resilience. Ammar started his journey of community service in 2015 with the aim of creating awareness & development in the marginalized communities regarding education and peace. Ammar has become an active part of CVE & CRA initiatives and projects in diverse districts of Karachi. He has conducted 30 plus modules training on community development, personal and professional development along with entrepreneurship and social enterprise models with youth of Karachi. He has trained almost 500 plus youth who conducted social action projects in their communities under his thematic mentoring including: gender equality, promote peace education, women empowerment, SDGS, media literacy, critical thinking, prevent domestic violence, and counter violence extremism. With his skills and background knowledge he had been engaged in countering violence extremism via interfaith harmony with at-risk communities and youth of Karachi under the banner project of Azm e Naujwan. And during this he has mentored and facilitated 30+ social action projects. Moreover, He is a certified trainer and carries love for wisdom which is shown through his book review series as a learning champ. Muhammad Ateeb is a business graduate and is currently working as a Senior Officer Training & Development with a leading retail organization of Pakistan. He is also a blogger and youth activist who always engages himself in community engagement initiatives. He aims to create sustainable solutions and rising opportunities for the crucial portion of Pakistani population which is youth. For this purpose he has worked with leading organizations like UNDP, USAID, OIC, Speak Smart Pakistan, Youth Parliament and Alkhidmat foundation. For creating awareness and acceptance he has worked for Transgender, thalassemia patients, orphans and the deaf and dumb community. Before and during COVID-19, he has led various youth groups for different community action projects. She is volunteering with ‘Universal Human Organization Trust, ‘ spearheading several activities targeted at promoting inter-faith harmony, religious and cultural diversity. Additionally, she is also linked with ‘Ambassadors of Christ’ as a youth coordinator, involving in several faith-based activities focused on bringing forth an informed cohort from her community to sow the seeds of brotherhood and unity in the near future. Through the same platform, she also works to create awareness among the community to harness the power of ‘love, ‘ “joy’ and ‘peace’ among the lives of striving women and girls. She is also involved in leading girls’ groups for career development, professional training, and soft skills empowering them to excel in their lives. While associated with Kumak Foundation, she actively contributes to creating awareness about the Human Rights and Legal Rights of Women that are frequently suppressed, ignored, or threatened in our society. With this she aims to fight against the ‘Gender Based Violence’ probing in our society. She is has also contributed in launching several legal awareness campaigns that are laser-focused on strengthening her community’s females providing economic or free of cost legal assistance and guidance. The camps further strive to consolidate women’s stance in the community by connecting them with viable opportunities revolving around education and career. In addition to this, Rania has been involved in guiding several victims of cybercrime and cyber-bullying by advocating for ‘Digital Security & Harassment’ Initiatives and promoting a safe virtual realm for women and girls. Shirin’s passion for an equitable educational and social landscape continues to be evident in her professional and volunteer work. After successfully completing projects in education in Tanzania, and the United States, Shirin serves at the Program Manager – Ethics and Governance and is leading projects on family-friendly workplaces and Pakistan’s investment landscape in partnership with the IFC at the Pakistan Business Council. Prior to her move, Shirin worked alongside the founders of growing social impact start-ups focused on community development in the UAE. These included BizWorld UAE, an experiential learning focused entrepreneurship program catered to students aged 7 – 15 as well as The Mawada Project, aimed at creating service-learning experiences under the themes of education, migration and refugees, special needs and sustainability. She also served as the Participant and Programming Co-Chair for e7 Banat, Daughters of the Emirates, an initiative looking to instill social entrepreneurial skills among female youth of the country. Shirin was also involved in the efforts of the education team at the Pakistan Youth Forum and served as the Head of Education for its executive board prior to her move. Upon her return she has spent time volunteering with the Rahbar mentorship program at TCF and was also part of the team of trainers for their pilot project called Street Law, working with 9th and 10th graders in understanding the basics of the Constitution of Pakistan. She is also a Social activist who has been volunteering with different Ngos working on interfaith harmony, peace and Human rights. She was also selected for the Amal fellowship US based program. Besides this, she has been attending different training workshops on religious tolerance and acceptance. She also remained part of different online events on peace. She also remains internee in the Young Peacemakers program by The Grief Directory organization. She was Co Team facilitator with one day Storytelling event organized by Soch the alternative media organization in Lahore. Along this she started her individual initiative on Peace and Interfaith harmony .In this initiative, she has been organizing different religious events with people from different faiths since 2019. With this, she has also been arranging diversity visits to different religious places in Lahore with youth from diverse backgrounds. In 2019, she with her friends arranged Ramadan iftar in Mandir, Gurdwara and Church for promoting peace and interfaith harmony. She also arranged Sabeel in Ramadan to spread a message of humanity and peace. She has also been working on a mental health awareness program among youth with a psychologist in Lahore. Her work is also on Forced conversion of minority females especially Hindu females. Currently, she is involved in different welfare, peace and interfaith activities that she believes in creating awareness and working on ground root levels.

Saba graduated with an International Relations degree from IIUI and is learning how to improve societal issues through policy and bureaucracy. Her work as a researcher for the Centre for Research and Scientific Studies championed inclusivity in the field of policy making; creating comprehensive policies in economic, social, and political spheres which are aimed at enabling a peaceful and cohesive Pakistan. She has also been an active social worker from an early age, engaging in environmental awareness and protection campaigns, and in the health sector for cancer and thalassemia awareness projects. In the education sector she has volunteered with various NGOs for underprivileged children at local schools and orphanages. She is determined to play a positive role in the growth of society by taking up an empathetic approach towards social issues with the intent to identify and inspect the roots of these issues and tackle them structurally. She intently helps her peers and juniors with capacity building, and strives to become a positive factor in the lives of those around her and to propagate goodwill in her communities.

He also completed his Dars Nizami from Jamia Islamia Chaman. Currently he is pursuing his M.Phil from Baluchistan University Quetta. During his student days, he also worked for the rights of students in the student organization Jamiat-e-Talaba-e-Islam Balochistan as the Provincial Vice President and as the Youth MNA in the National Youth Assembly of Pakistan. The JUI-F is the largest and oldest religious-political organization in the country. He is now the Vice President of JUI-F Boghra City Chaman. Which is actively working for the establishment of peace in the region. He also writes on the Islamic page Iqra of the daily Jang Quetta. He is also the Central President of Shamshad Reuters Forum Baluchistan, a popular writers’ organization in Baluchistan who writes about the protection of human rights, peace and tolerance, and love in society. Which play an important role in maintaining law and order. Muhammad Siddique Madani is also interested in historical, literary, and cultural studies. He also recently visited the Afghan cities of Spain, Boldak, Kandahar, Ghazni, Bamyan, Mazar-e-Sharif, and the federal capital Kabul to study history and culture.

Being a human rights defender and a development practitioner, She is currently serving at University of Baltistan, as focal person of “Well-Being Center”, Apart from that She is the member as Research Associate of International Organization Community of Peace Development in Bangladesh. Aiming to fight with the taboos attached to Mental health, she has founded a mental health center with name “Institute of Psychological Wellbeing and Research Center”. And working with UMANG as counselor and Working with AKRSP in project SMK by UNFPA. Minal is a PVE (Preventing Violent Extremism) trainer, a researcher, and a social development professional. She currently works at Save the Children International and holds an MPhil in Development Studies. Minal aims to promote a pluralistic and inclusive society and has a deep interest in religious minorities, animals, and child’s rights. During her five years of professional experience, Minal has led on-ground and transmedia campaigns to counter violent extremist narratives and online hate speech under programs like Kofi Anan Foundation’s Extremely Together and Institute for Strategic Dialogue’s YouthCan and mentored community uplift and development projects under Peace Direct’s Simurg Fund. She has served as a sub-editor for Ravadar blogs – a blog series that documents personalized stories of religious minorities. Minal is a part of a Gender, Justice, and Security Hub and has contributed to several national and international publications including SPARC’s annual flagship report The State of Pakistan’s Children, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative’s Easier Said Than Done Report, and Principles for Peace’s country report for Pakistan. She occasionally likes to write articles for The News. Minal wishes to strive for communal harmony through participatory and meaningful interventions and supports causes like freedom of religious belief, gender mainstreaming, and wildlife and environmental conservation.

Social work and social activism has been the center of his effort to create innovative and sustainable solutions for social problems like sectarian issues, less enrollment in girls education, Empowering the deprives youth and many more the pursuit led to his idea of “Communication Skills” being shortlisted in international conferences of SDG’s and climate change in PC Malam jabba swat where sustainable development goals specifically Gender equality, decent work and economic growth and clean water and sanitation were discussed and planned further projects in this regard. and interfaith harmony by Awqaf department Khyber pakhtoon khwa, where representatives of different faiths gave the message of interfaith harmony.

Samina Bibi

Samina is a vocal community activist who is always a staunch supporter of women’s rights, girls’ education and peacebuilding. She belongs to a very less developed district, Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), where women are always in a disadvantaged and vulnerable position with no access to education, justice, basic health care facilities, and livelihood opportunities. To work for women empowerment and peace building in her community, Samina has initiated various activities for women mainly home-based small businesses through agricultural activities and skills development through vocational education. In collaboration with local stakeholders, she led a series of training programs in which more than 200 women from 04 villages were trained on livelihood enhancement and skill-building. This intervention helped the women in improving their livelihood and raising their standard of living. During her Master’s degree, Samina was actively involved with the Women Research and Resource Centre (WRRC) of the Gender Studies department at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) Rawalpindi and contributed to some research work. Given her excellent academic performance and interest in exploring new learnings, she was selected to attend a one-semester online course titled “Gender and Global Understanding” under a Global Academic Initiatives, arranged by FJWU in collaboration with the University of Mexico, University of East Carolina, and the University of Henan Polytechnic, China. Following graduation, Samina joined the development sector and worked with various national and international organizations. In a Research Firm, while contributing to the data analysis of some projects she learnt to analyze the data and acquired an understanding of the basic policy design and gender-related issues in Pakistan. In addition, Samina has also excellent networking skills and with the help of her networks in September 2019, she was selected for the role “Volunteering for Development Specialist – Networking and Coordination Officer in an international organization, Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO). Under this role, she worked for VSO’s partner organization – Parliamentary SDGs Secretariat, National Assembly. While working at the SDGs Secretariat, she worked with the Policy Experts, MNAs, and Parliamentarians who are contributing to the implementation of the Human Rights Laws by working directly with the government. This really helped her further identify her niche and motivated her to pursue her career in the development sector with a concentration on women’s economic empowerment through peace, and girls’ education. Currently, Samina is working with an international organization, where she works on projects related to girls’ education, skills development, livelihood, and food security.

Junaid Akbar is graduate from Peshawar University in Bachelor of Arts and currently working as Freelance soft Skills Trainer with different organization across Pakistan but to reach here wasn’t easy task, first he started his social activities from British Council platform as volunteer in 2018 and completed his first SAP by enrolling 14 OOSC in Government Primary Schools, in 2019 he has been selected for the position of Facilitator in British Council project call TACS and Trained 150 young volunteers in two Districts (Swabi and Nowshera) that year, in 2020 he got selected as District coordinator and serve on that position for 18 months in this period he successfully executed sports rollout of 8 weeks in 8 schools across district Swabi also successfully implemented pilot phase of IFERB project in same school with 100 students for 4 months. Side by side in that critical situation of COVID he also Trained 60 more volunteers for same project and also conducted online orientation session to 60 volunteers of different districts on British Council project Aawaz II, in 2021 he has been selected as Master Trainer for British Council project Aawaz II, with that he didn’t stop investing on his personal capacity building and attended TTYT organized by School of Leadership Karachi. Same year he Trained British Council project staff of district Swabi and Charsadda on core and thematic areas, as he was in touch with project Aawaz II got selected for ACA Facilitator and Trained 90 ACAs so far across district Swabi in 2022, same year he got an opportunity to Train 50 youth each from Swabi and Nowshera for COVID vaccination drive and also independently completed Coping with corona project with 62 adolescents in three Districts, Swabi, Mardan and Nowshera and vaccinated 372 people from local community. He not the man to stop at any stage he is struggling and in near future he is going to launch his own startup and initiating his soft Skills Enhancement organization by the name of JAL&DI ( Junaid Akbar Learning and Development Institute)

Sumair Abbas

Sumair Abbas is a recent graduate of Social Work from the University of Peshawar and is currently working with the Local Government Research & Policy Unit-LGRPU to ensure better governance and service delivery at the local level through data-driven and research-based policy recommendations. Since his university times, Sumair has been involved in research, social advocacy, social change, students’ rights, innovation and peace. For Sumair, peace is empowerment. With that view, he had consultative meetings with minorities in Peshawar, listened to their issues and with his team advocated for their rights. “Education is the best form of empowerment”, Sumair says. During the covid-19, when the schools were closed, Sumair with the help of an organization distributed over 300 whiteboards in his district and volunteered to teach children in his community during the harsh times of the pandemic. To ensure sustainability, innovation and students’ rights, he founded the Social Work Students’ Association, wrote its constitution and got it approved by the University of Peshawar. The constitution ensures the inclusion of girls and minority students in the cabinet, which independently for social justice and change. He is a peace writer, who writes for a bilingual magazine Mirror of Society. Currently working as a researcher with the Local Government Elections & Rural Development Department, he is studying the local governance system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and aims to ensure an inclusive and accountable local governance system which can serve the people at the local level and solve their problems at their doorsteps.

Namkeen Peshawri is an intersex rights activist, artist, and Founder of the Trans Support Group, advocating for transgender rights in conservative regions near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. With over a decade of experience in addressing gender-based violence (GBV) and providing psychosocial support, she has led life skills sessions for over 300 transgender individuals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Working with international organizations like IRC, WHO, UNDP, and GIZ, Namkeen focuses on gender equality and social inclusion. Her artistry challenges societal norms, and her advocacy has influenced policy reforms to better serve the transgender community.

The act of solving difficult problems not only provides an excellent way of gaining a significant amount of knowledge and experience per unit time but also enables me to drive a deep sense of pride and satisfaction from my hard work. I’m the first person in my whole extended family to get admission in bachelor’s degree program. So one can easily guess how many mentors I had in my life to guide me, Zero. Anyhow, because of my hard work and parent’s prayers, I successfully got admission to a world class University. But when I realized that how tough it is for the students of my city, to get into these institutes just because of lack of counselling. I took the initiative to guide the youth of my city and put them on a path of success. For this I have organized many events in different institutes by the name APKI REHNUMAI (your guidance) . Along with it, I started working with many organizations on different initiatives for the betterment of this society. I helped many students and poor families by raising funds for them, worked with international organizations to promote gender equality and peace to counter extremism. Recently we have launched PAK YOUTH FORUM to address the problems of youth and empower them. We have the honor of being able to organize first ever youth conclave in history of Chakwal where 30+ NGOs and 200+ delegates participated. I’m Chairman of Baraye.E.Adam and provided relief to more than 150 families last year and provided free meals to more than 1000 persons in festive days. I’m also serving at the position of district ambassador of various INGOs, conducting food drives and blood donation drives. Also worked for many organizations and events which were to appreciate the youth who had done good in their respective field and motivated others to serve their society. I’m also utilizing all media platforms to raise awareness on unspoken issues including newspaper, radio, and social media. Besides this I also participated in many other events including meeting with foreign delegations. He is Ex-president of the MNS-UAM literary club. He is the former president of Tutorial group meeting (TGM). He is actively engaged in formal and informal education of children of schools. He is working for the youth empowerment in schools, colleges and universities. He previously joined three days training by youth development foundation (YDF) in Lahore and won the title of peace ambassador. After training he performed community action project (CAP) in University of agriculture Multan with the theme of “Aman mushaira” and “peace through music”. He arranged a garrison library tour for youth to enhance book reading capacity. His work for minorities is highly encourage able as he visited many diverse places for seeking peace and love such as Temple Church and Gurdwara. Hailing from a remote village of Bulleh Shah’s land Kasur, zealous to preserve, promote and popularize her marginalized mother tongue (Punjabi), Tayyaba writes, advocates and researches themed around her interests. Besides co-founding an advocacy campaign “Ugaiti Soch” to put girls education and right of children to receive a quality education at the front of public and political discourse, Tayyaba has recently co-founded “Aman Chaupal” a safer and inclusive space for villages particularly children and females to intermingle and interact. Aman Chaupal is striving to revive traditional Chaupals that used to be the center of socio-political and cultural activities by means of art, literature, poetry and discourse. She is also one of the leading Members of a Campaign “Peace through Lens” based on documentaries, on ground screening and real stories about interfaith harmony and minorities issues.

Arooj Mujeeb is teacher of Psychology and Social Wok and a PhD scholar at National Institute of Psychology, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. She is trained for pedagogy, research, and civic engagement from University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO, USA). Her immense interest in research has resulted in multiple theses and publications on marginalized communities of Pakistan including acid burn female victims, internally displaced persons, families of missing persons, transgender individuals, and orphans; to name a few. She strongly believes in dialogue, training, and preventive approach to achieve the goal of harmonious and non-violent communities. Thus, her teachers’ trainings concentrate on conflict management, problem solving, and development of pro-social behaviors to achieve harmonious classroom environments for children who are in their learning phase. Training of trainers is a hallmark of her professional career for which she has worked with some renowned organizations of Pakistan including Pakistan Air Force and Federal Public Service Commission. She has previously worked as a volunteer trainer for a UK-based project titled “Rising Girl”. Its pilot project was launched in Pakistan in 2021 to conduct training sessions on empowerment for female university students for which she was part of core team of trainers. Another area, closer to her heart, is designing and conducting psycho-social awareness campaigns for local community. She has conducted and supervised around 35 awareness campaign uptil now. She has closely worked with some renowned organizations in Pakistan, alongwith her students, to fulfill objectives of the awareness campaigns. This year; she and her students collaborated with Karim Khan Afridi Welfare Organization (KKAWF), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB), NOWPDP (Network of Organizations Working for People With Disabilities in Pakistan), Noreen Zindagi Welfare Trust, and Red Crescent Pakistan. Aimed at provision of social services, she has initiated her own social media platform on Facebook titled PEENG (Pushing Everyone Enthusiastically for Nascent of Gains) for emphasizing the value of education and mental health through webinars with subject experts. She foresees herself working for betterment of local community.

He managed his education till intermediate privately on his own as he was working. Has been an active and core organizer of Aurat March since 2018 advocating and amplifying the voices of the oppressed and marginalized women community in a patriarchal society. Have taught in Rimsha Community School in H-9 and Slum areas of G-11/4, Islamabad to ensure accessibility of education to the people from every class, and make them self-aware and be a better member of community. Maqsoom has Been conducting a study circle at QAU since 2017 for awareness on social issues of gender based violence, poverty, educational lag of girls, issues of transgender community, economy and role of students in its prevalence, political structures and systems. He has been actively participating in positive conflict resolution in his native town Kanianwala, Pind Dadan Khan, and had advocated the issue of girls dropout ratio from primary schools there. Aliha has been working in the education industry and corporate sector for quite some time now in the capacity of Human Resource Manager, Career Coach, and Community Development Specialist. She has also worked on some community development projects i.e. Restore the Nature, Amal fellowship program, and Stress Saviours Society. Stress Saviours Society is her ongoing project related to mental health counseling. She started her professional journey with P-TEVTA, the largest skill provider in Punjab- mostly in rural areas, as a Project Manager and Talent Acquisition Head. There she organized a large-scale internship program with 87 interns from both public and private institutes to work together on different projects such as Application Development, Web Development, and innovation to name a few. Additionally, she also counseled them for their future roles based on their expertise. The future Leader internship program was a huge success and was the first-ever large-scale internship program launched by any government department. Her diverse range of experiences enabled her to realize that our youth have a lot of untapped potential and skills but they lack the art of effectively presenting them to the recruiter. Consequently, she joined Amal Academy (NGO), affiliated with Stanford University and sponsored by Pepsi Co., which works for the betterment of people, especially youth. This was the platform where she could assist the young mind of Pakistan to groom themself according to the corporate world standard. Being an HR Professional, she has a deep insight into the importance of such programs, particularly for the freshly graduated students, who are a step away from their destined future but lack in branding themselves properly for the job market. However, after joining Amal Academy, she strongly believed in the importance of getting such counseling to end up in the right organization based on students’ customized skills and preferences. These services were provided to the students from public universities at the minimal cost of 2000 rupees. As an initiative of the 3 months of Amal fellowship, the students were also asked to be part of social work i.e. raising funds for the Edhi Foundation and doing the fellowship final project on a social cause. In the meanwhile, she realized the importance of mental peace for students. Most of them struggled in concentrating on their careers when they were mentally exhausted and burnt out since they did not have an accessible avenue to seek mental health-related help. This is when Stress Saviours Society came into existence. it is a startup that provides comprehensive virtual mental health services by professional psychologists at a minimal cost to youth, especially university students. My team and I aim to expand further into introducing some stress-relieving online courses and stress checkers via online applications and websites. As part of the Stress Saviours Society, we have conducted several health camps, blood donation drives, and ration distribution activities in the rural areas of southern Punjab. We have also planted more than 250 trees in different areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the banner of our local initiative “Restore the Nature”.

He belongs to lower middle class with constant financial issues that caused him to drop his desire for higher education after completing his BA in order to support his family but after the hiatus of 8 years, as things came on track, he pursued his degree of Masters in Media and Mass communication and passed with 1st class. He started his journey of journalism from a small town of Bhitshah and kept on growing and evolving afterwards. He shifted to Karachi and worked in a renowned sindhi news organization, soon after that he got promoted and the corporation made him Incharge of editorial page. He wrote editorials on such as National Action Plan, Terrorism, Religious extremism, Democratic supremacy and peace, during the years 2016-17. It gave him a new identity. Being a social worker, he has worked in different areas and served people with whatever possible. He believes that whenever a person from a backward area comes to an urban atmosphere and learns new things then it is his/her duty to bring stability to the people of his/her own and drag them out of the darkness. For this, he has been engaged in different social workshops and is in constant contact with the youth of his native city. He along with his friends started a welfare organisation back in 2010 and after a decade, the plant grew into a dense tree and the organisation is serving people in different domains such as health, education and civic awareness.

Dr. Sorath Sindhu (from Karachi, Sindh) is a social activist who is known for her dauntless voice to take action against social and political unjust. Dr. Sindhu initially gained notice for her young female campaigner on social network and her straightforward speaking manner. She describes her role as a much larger effort to empower youth (especially women & girls) in Sindh. She has successfully launched the campaigns for #SindhRejectsForcedConversion #SindhRejetsIslandOrdinance by which the government took actions for repealing the Island Ordinance. She has not only lauched campaigns on social networks but in the field as well. As she campaigned the awareness program of prevention of coronavirus at local level of rural areas. Recently, she has contributed as one of the active young members for Civic Education in Sindh and presented a bill for Civic Education in Sindh through standing committee of Provincial Assembly of Sindh. She has contributed as speaker at various conferences / workshops / seminars on social and political issues. She considers sufficient action to address the Forced Conversions, Minority Issues in Pakistan, Women Empowerment through Economic Participations, Transgender Rights (as equal citizens) in Pakistan and Civic Education in Sindh.

Anil Kumar is a social activist and human rights defender and is specifically working for women rights. He is a Bussiness graduate with majors in HR and is currently preparing for his MBA from abroad. Throughout his academic career, he has been associated and working with many social and welfare organisations in different capacities but with one agenda and that is to promote and build a society which is more inclusive, less reactive, & violence free specially for women and minorities. Because he Personally, does not appreciate the concept of one religion, one gender, one language or even one opinion. He says; “We all are humans but with different thoughts, and different intellects, how one can expect all to agree on something that he thinks is right. Fundamentally, this whole concept is vague and so irrelevant in today’s time, that must be addressed cautiously otherwise the consequence in form of extremism are there to see.” Therefore, his work mainly revolves around inclusive society. He did his Train The Young Trainer and became a certified trainer to address and advocate such subjects efficiently. It was his passion and desire to serve community that despite all the hurdles kept him going. He participated in many national and international conferences and workshops where he highlighted situation of women in general and then women of minorities in Pakistan. He organised sessions in his university on women rights. He organised and participated in multiple peaceful protests against forced conversions. Furthermore, he led the first youth conference of in Hyderabad where students from all three universities came together and learnt about leadership and personal responsibility. He is also an alumni of the YOUNG LEADERS CONFERENCE and the centre for human rights education. He activily ran his post conference social action projects on enhancing interfaith harmony, building peace and including women in decision making.
