  3. Radicalization of youth and it’s causes.
  4. Youth as peace-builders. How can we as youth play our part in bringing interfaith harmony, tolerance and peace within our society?
  5. Activity: Pen down the opinion of the person sitting next to you as you hear them speak of their strategy in regards to how the youth can be an active peace agent in the society.

Background

A segment of the Pakistani society is in a constant denial towards the increased radicalization and extremism affecting the society as a whole. Another segment of our society justifies the radical and extremist ideologies and directly or indirectly, support such organizations that destabilize the entire society.  The dehumanization of the Ahmadi community in Pakistan is one example that has me confused and as if the violence against them was not enough, even talking against the violence towards them is pretty much considered wrong within our society. They have faced exclusivity from the state itself, which further weakens their stand against the radical organizations in the country.

Through a short discussion based session, we talked about the various ways certain ways a group of people are categorized and dehumanized to an extent where violence seems like an appropriate means of showing power and superiority. We also discussed how such radicalization is increasing among the youth, its causes and how we can help counter the prevailing extremism, We discussed the different strategies that we as youth can imply for a more tolerant and peaceful society.

Theme

A discussion based awareness session where every concept from the self development course was discussed thoroughly with the participants.

Impact

The session enlightened the participants to various concepts such as inclusivity, dehumanization and conflicts to an extent where they were able to recall various examples from within the Pakistani society to exemplify the concepts. We were all able to generate various strategies that we as youth can use to be the peace agents of our society.

Participants

    Total no of Participants: 7

    Age: 21-24

    Gender: All female

All the participants were from the Psychology department at Foundation University, Islamabad.

Outcome

The session resulted in a productive learning and the participants exchanged various experiences and opinions which helped all of us to have a greater understanding of the relevant concepts. The entire session was full of fun especially the last activity that involved penning down the opinion of the person sitting next to you as you hear them speak of their strategy in regards to how the youth can be an active peace agent in the society. The session resulted in self reflection and helped all of us to aim being active peace-builders of our society.
