Amna Mufti is a versatile and gifted Pakistani writer who has some of the best plays
to her credit. These plays aired on Pakistani television. She makes it easy for the
audience to connect with her plays through her incredible sense of crafting. Mufti
has conjured up something different and intriguing in her writings which makes her
one of the successful and renowned storytellers in Pakistan. A gritty novelist as she
is, Amna has forged new ways to speak her heart. She has a passion for farming. She
too joined a school of organic farming as the principal. Mufti started writing when
she was only eight.
She wrote a Ghazal back then. She has composed few verses as well. Shohrat Bukhari
was her guide. Amna always wanted to write poems, but fate chose her as a writer.
She wrote her first short story “Phir wohi dasht”. It had its publication in May 1998.
In 2007, she was felicitated with the PEN Best Debut Award for her debut novel
“Jurat-e-Rindana”. Mufti has compiled a beautiful and compelling 600-page book
called “Aakhri Zamana”. This book shows the transgression of the rights of ordinary
people and also highlights the disintegration of our society. Later, she went on to
write “Ik hatheli pae hina, ik hatheli pae lahoo”, which faced a lot of censorship as it
dealt with the sectarian issue.
Some of her other works include “Sabz Pari Laal Kabooter”, “Ullu bara e farokht nahi”
to name a few. “Jahez” and “Ullu bara e farokht nahi” were nominated for the Lux
Style Awards. Similarly, Amna did a marvellous job in “Iztarab”, where she had put
down many major social issues while making use of a love triangle. Amna Mufti lives
with her husband and children. She has received enormous love and acceptance
from her fans for her works.
